Drakhtik, Surb Grigor Narekatsi [Narekatsʻi] (Saint Gregory of Narek) Church, Khachkar № 2
A topographic report
Description
According to the latest information, the khachkar was located in the altar of the Surb-Grigor Narekatsi church, among the stone ruins of the dome. Its original location is unknown, but it is likely that it was situated on one of the window sills on the east side, as suggested by the presence of a cross of the same type, albeit more crudely sculpted, probably added later to the right side of the khachkar. By its nature, the khachkar is small and almost square. The composition includes a pair of crosses surrounded on three sides by a large decorative woven frame. The crosses are connected by the rounded projections of the horizontal transverse arms.
In the lower part of the khachkar, instead of a decorative belt, the composition frame is completed by a three-line inscription (now heavily damaged), preserving the name of the donor Khoji, who erected the cross for the salvation of the souls of his family: his father, mother, and brother: «թվկ թ հ․․․ ծը․․․ ես Խոջի կան/կեցի զխաչըս հայր իմաւ․․․ եմո/․․․․ մո/ր)․․․(ե)ղբա[յ]ր իմ․․․».
